The name Cairnfield House came from the ground it was built on, as “cairn” means a stony field in Scottish Gaelic. This elegant home was built in 1904 and apart from a new roof, the house is in its original state – even including some of the wallpaper.

Several wings have been added to best cater to different client needs, with the client’s comfort and safety always in mind. The most recent wing was added in April 2018 with 21 more luxurious hospital bedrooms. We now have 60 hospital level beds and 26 rest home level beds each room in the new Kowhai wing has a heat pump a lovely reclining chair a lockable bedside cabinet, ceiling to floor double glazed windows with large shared ensuites between two rooms.
