Bev Parry – Senior Registered Nurse
I was born in Wellington and grew up there. I did my nursing training in Wellington Public Hospital, Lower Hutt Hospital and Silverstream Geriatric Hospital in the late 60′s to early 70′s. I did staff nursing in Psychiatry and surgery.
I married and had three boys – all are married and I have six grand children aged between 12 and 3 years old.
I spent four years in England while my husband did post graduate training in Obstetrics/Gynaecology and returned for a year to Christchurch finally settling in Whangarei.
I ran my husbands private practice as the Office Manager/RN for 20 years. In 1992 a urologist joined the practice and I subsequently worked for him for 15 years. Moving from Kowhai Court to Cardinal Points for the last five years 2000 – 2005 working purely in urology, on odd occasions I helped out being the Practice Nurse for the Physician who also worked in that practice. I enjoyed the challenge there with urodynamics, minor surgery, chemo therapy and research.
I left at the end of 2005 to take the Charge Nurse position at Oakhaven Geriatric Hospital, this job lead to Clinical Nurse Manager at Oakhaven.
I left in 2007 to take the RN position here at Cairnfield House, I enjoy the daily challenges of the job and love the interaction with the residents.
I remarried in 2006 and inherited 2 step children, their spouses and another 5 grand children. I am very lucky to have 3 children and 8 grand children living in Whangarei.
My husband and I also run a small boarding cattery in town, which keeps us busy.
I enjoy varied activities, we belong to two caravan clubs and love the rallies. My husband is in Rotary and I am in Inner Wheel, which we both enjoy. I enjoy gardening when I get the chance, reading and I try to get to the gym on a weekly basis. For relaxation I find jigsaws and cross stitch enjoyable, but most of all I love spending time with the grand children.
